as state and federal governments struggle against an ailing economy, many accountants are bracing for a new surge of work from new tax and regulatory changes. but all that new work for cpas may not be a good thing, according to one of the profession’s most outspoken iconoclasts.
“regulatory revenue windfalls have a way of driving profits too much,” says cpa ron baker, perhaps the profession’s leading evangelist for burying the billable-hour business model.
the expected flood of new business, he says, “will distract us from what’s really important. the important things won’t get done. people will become complacent again.”

the harvard business review has listed the top 10 fatal flaws that derail business leaders. while some may seem obvious, the study revealed something else about ineffective leaders that may surprise you: the worst leaders don’t even know it. in fact, those who exhibited the most negative behaviors often rated themselves very positively when surveyed. the findings parallel 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 research which finds that too many accounting firms suffer from a lack of skilled leaders.

in what could be a wake-up call for accounting firms, a majority of women think that their wealth managers could do a better job of serving them, and nearly a quarter of them say that there is a “significant need for improvement,” according to a new global study by the boston consulting group.

among business majors at 345 u.s. universities, google ranked highest as an attractive place to start a career, followed, in second place, by ernst & young, then pwc and deloitte. disney is in 5th place and kpmg 6th.

the results of the universum survey are used by talent marketers to understand how students perceive companies. the data suggests how attractive an employer is amongst students, and indicates a company’s position in relation to other ideal employers in the recruitment market. the rankings enable employers to track and set targets for measuring their level of employer attractiveness.

key morale indicator falls to 15-year low.
while the economy is slowly recovering, a new analysis by hewitt associates shows employee engagement and morale in the workplace are not.
the data show tax, accounting and finance organizations the importance of employee morale and engagement in creating a productive workplace.
third year in a row for the listing.
to qualify, companies had to be public or privately held u.s. accounting firms with at least 15 employees, according to accounting today. firms underwent a two-part survey process, the first part evaluating workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems, and demographics; and the second surveying employees. best companies group managed the overall registration, survey and analysis process, and determined the final rankings.

this year, vault said, firm culture, as opposed to prestige, emerged as the most important determining factor. in fact, 36% of all accounting professionals surveyed said firm culture was most important, while only 11% cited prestige as most important. the other top factors cited by survey respondents were: lifestyle/work-balance (14%), location (13%), compensation (5%) and training opportunities (also 5%).
