8 steps to gaining a client by helping a client

three climbers helping each other up a hillthis is one of those times when a small investment pays a big return.

by 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间

nobody knows your clients like you know your clients. you know them from deep inside. even a simple tax prep gives you insight into the nature of a business – its services, its efficiency, its growth or stagnancy, its honesty and dependability. some of this you can glean from the process of tax preparation, audits and such, but it also comes from the chats you have with the client during the course of the year.

as you have certainly noticed, none of your clients run a perfect business. they could all be more efficient. they could all come closer to their potential. they could all use something that you can help provide – even if it’s not one of your services.

survey results: busy? time is the solution, not the problem

meditative businessman is pondering time management while surrounded by alarm clockscolleagues offer tips for busy season.

by 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 research

hey, just because you get a nice new watch for christmas doesn’t mean you’re going to have more time when busy season rolls around. quite to the contrary, it’s only going to tell you how little time you have.

time is what busy’s all about. so if you can manage time, you can manage busy. and if you manage time well enough –  better than last busy season – then maybe next busy season will be more of a breeze-through season. or at least not a pound-head-on-wall season.

the 2015 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 busy season survey asked a good question: “what are your best time management tips for busy season?”

and we got some good answers. the survey turned up all sorts of uncontrollable problems, from the complexity of the affordable care act to the recalcitrance of computers. but of all the stuff that happened, time was the one that everyone could a) predict and b) manage a little better.

lessons from 2015:

i am troubled about this year’s numbers, especially when combined with what i am seeing as a consultant in the profession and the anecdotal evidence all around me. in fact, i’m bearish on the short-term outlook for the profession. call me a contrarian, but i think 2014 and 2015 will go down as the calm before the (next) storm.

organic growth for responding firms in 2014 was 4.7 percent, down from 5.2 percent in 2013. neither number could be construed as being “robust” and the downward trend is troubling given the so-called “recovery” that is supposedly happening.

tax & accounting firms wrestle fewer price increases from clients

following a short-lived surge in rate hikes, clients push back and competitors swoop in.

by 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间

after hitting record billing rates in february, the nation’s tax and accounting firms are facing new resistance to price increases, in which the industry seems to be taking one step back for every two steps forward, according to a new 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 analysis.

the renewed pricing pressure suggests toughened competition in the marketplace and an overall softness in the economy as firms try to push up prices but have difficulty making them stick.

the latest data parsed by 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 research shows billing rates off by half of 1 percent, the seventh such decline in the last 12 months, leaving rates essentially unchanged in the last year.

the problems in raising and holding prices come after a strong surge last year in which fees rose 3 percent from march to october, according to 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间 research.

the new rosenberg map survey reveals a few significant things about the state of the accounting business—that growth and profit-per-partner are growing at a negligible rate and that intangible people issues are becoming painfully tangible, for example. but some more subtle truths emerge in the gimlet-eyed observations of those who advise cpa firms.

annual map survey

the new 2015-2016 annual map survey presents news both good and bad—and more of the latter than the former.

  • the good news: cpa firms revenues and profits increased last year.
  • the bad news: the increase in revenues was less than in the previous year, a lot of it was only due to mergers, and growth was lowest for the smallest firms. and the increase in income per equity partner was especially sluggish.

most worrisome was the finding that organic growth— which is to say real growth not generated artificially by mergers—was actually a bit lower than in 2013, dropping from 5.2 percent to 4.7 percent, according to the new rosenberg map survey, available exclusively from 卡塔尔世界杯常规比赛时间.
